Bird Education around secondary schools In Buea, Cameroon

Our current project, the Bird Education Program in Buea, Cameroon, is dedicated to raising awareness about avian conservation among secondary school students. This initiative involves workshops, interactive sessions, and field trips that educate students on bird behavior, habitats, and the ecological importance of birds, focusing on species native to the Mount Cameroon area, such as the Mount Cameroon Speirops and Bannerman’s Turaco.

Since the program’s inception, we have educated over 50 community members on mangrove conservation, planted 1,200 seedlings, and established a nursery to restore a 30-hectare degraded mangrove area in Tiko. We are also conducting a study titled “Impact of Educational Intervention on Teenagers’ Avian Conservation Awareness in Southwest Cameroon” to assess the effectiveness of our efforts.
